Where to go in Jindřichův Hradec Region

One popular Czech proverb says that one can not live only by working. The region of Jindřichův Hradec offers many possibilities for active or passive relax. Cultural, social, sport and other events usually have long-time tradition and they provide the citizens of the region with purposeful and inspirational use of leisure time.

Tourist TOP Week right in the middle of the season, at the turn of July and August, visitors of Jindřichův Hradec have an opportunity to enjoy lots of unique experience available during the Tourist TOP Week.  Whole happening offers many cultural and social events like concerts, exhibitions, theatre plays or photography in historical costumes, and it culminates with a traditional fair full of many attractions, which is called Porcinkule.  As a part of the Tourist TOP Week, there is usually an attempt to set a record, which commences the entire event.

Concertino Praga is one of the most prestigious events in the Czech Republic. The international radio competition of Czech Radio organised for young musicians from all over the world finishes with South-Bohemian June festival of winners and laureates for more than 40 years. It is hosted by Jindřichův Hradec – respectively the knight hall of the State castle and palace.

Opera in the palace. Open-air opera is regularly held in Jindřichův Hradec during the last holiday weekend. The third yard of the State castle and palace hosts members of the National Theatre Opera Ensemble, presenting the most popular opera works to the visitors.

Day of the Town / Municipal Day. The municipal feasts are annually held in Jindřichův Hradec in June. They are held in the centre of the town, but mainly in the complex of the State castle and palace. The celebrations always aim at a different topic and prizes are awarded to the most successful pupils and students of Jindřichův Hradec.

Folk Rose. For the time of its existence, the several-days lasting July folk festival obtained popularity at folk music fans as well as at artists. The concerts are held mainly on the 3rd yard of the place, but also in other locations, like Chapel of St. Mary Magdalena or atrium of the Museum of Jindřichův Hradec region. Many accompanying events are held within the scope of the festival.

Hurrah for Holiday! An event for children, full of attractions, games and competitions with many sweet rewards is annually held in the municipal park in Jindřichův Hradec in the end of August. The citizens of Jindřichův Hradec welcome holiday, but they also say goodbye to holiday. The municipal park holds celebrations in the end of August, during the event called „Town to Children or Saying Goodbye to Holiday “.

Cross the hill to Hradec or Pedal of Jindřichův Hradec. The region of Jindřichův Hradec is one of frequent aims of cyclists and so it became a tradition to welcome every new tourist season by mass cycling trip in the town above Vajgar Pond. Routs of various demands are campaigned with funny events and a competition for a bicycle as the main prize. The season starts in May, while it is closed – also with a cycling trip – in October.

Go to the Tower! This is a sport and fun competition organised by the Museum of Jindřichův Hradec region, held just since 1998 at the occasion of the May Museum Day. Dozens of competitors annually try to fight down 153 steps of the Town Lookout Tower. By now, the best result is 40.7 sec. The event is regularly completed with an accompanying program.

Advent in the Palace. In the course of summer season, the State castle and palace in Jindřichův Hradec is the aim of thousands of tourists mainly due to its beauty, extent and undisputable cultural and historic wealth, while in advent period it attracts its visitors by festive atmosphere supported by environment with frequently emotional history. In the course of one December weekend, the visitors can taste period food and drinks, they can see live crèche or see the operation of popular Black kitchen.

Art Workshop of Romana Hulíková in Děbolín. Every year, some ten events for the public are held in Děbolín – the summer cinema, holiday workshop or topic-oriented events (Christmas or Easters workshops). The products of the workshop in Děbolín include grey, glossy and author ceramics. The organised events are designed for children as well as for adult visitors who have the possibility to test their skills and creativity.
