V. Novák Grammar School

gymnazium v novaka

Vítězslav Novák Grammar School is in Husova Street. The original school building (now a museum) was not large enough, so after the establishment of Czechoslovakia it was decided that a new building would be constructed. The project was designed by architect Bedřich Bendelmayer and construction was commissioned from the builder J. Šonský on 20 January 1921. The school opened on 1 September 1923. The school’s director at that time, Dr. Ferdinand Hoffmeister, is given greatest credit for its construction. The building is situated in a quiet area and equipped with everything – specialised rooms, laboratories, gymnasium and a playing field.
